Backpacking to West Ridge Trail Camp was easy-to moderate 6 mile hike. The trail is mostly shaded while the terrain is predominantly uphill but not too steep with some level paths. The West Ridge Trail is only for hikers, although you’ll frequently encounter mountain bikers speeding down the trail which can be quite dangerous.
Our return hike was the same route back; therefore, the trail is mainly downhill but not rough on your knees. There’s an option do a loop, the path is wider and shared with mountain bikers which we feel takes away the feeling of being in woods.
The West Ridge Trail Camp has 6 campsites (but 1 is down due to falling tree) and it’s on a first-come-first-serve basis. The campsite has an outhouse and a trash can, although maintenance doesn’t appear to be constant.
