Dare to trip.

Siem Reap, Cambodia

What?

Siem Reap is the gateway to the stunning UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor. It is also a resort town filled with tuk tuks and delicious food. We heard through the grapevine about “Happy Pizza” and took on the challenge to locate some when we got there. We were successful in finding it, but it took down one of our group members because it was so strong (hahah). One of the most memorable experience we had there was seeing the picturesque temples and historical wreckage – the view of it all was mesmerizing. We also tried fried lemongrass snake for the first time while in the countryside and actually enjoyed it.

Where?

Siem Reap is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia and is a popular resort town because of it’s close proximity to the Angkor region.

How?

We spent a few nights at the Borei Angkor Hotel. It’s not common that we book for a 5 star hotel, but in Siem Reap, it’s quite affordable. The hotel can book tours for you while you’re staying there, but we opted to walk to the front of the hotel and approached one of the tuk tuk drivers waiting around. We hired him to take us around the temples, including Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple, Ta Prohm, Angkor Archaeological Park, Angkor Thom, and Banteay Srei for a portion of the price that the hotel was asking for. He was a great guide and driver, so we hired him for another day to take us around the countryside and downtown.
