Kuta is an interesting town in Bali. It’s very touristy and our impression was that there was widespread homophobia there. However, surfing is great here for those who are learning and there were a lot of beautiful women visiting from out of town.
Kuta is a beach and resort area in the south of the island of Bali, Indonesia.
We took a flight to Bali from Thailand and got a taxi from the airport. The ride from the airport to Kuta took over 3 hours even though the hotel was really not that far. Traffic is horrendous in that area. We got to the POP Hotel hotel past 9PM and decided to go to Circle K around the corner. We had noticed that there were a lot of people hanging out in the front of the shop where there were benches. We went inside, purchased some beer and snacks and took a bench. There were only three of us on one side of the bench, so a friendly local came over and asked if he could join us. He spoke broken english, but we were able to understand him. After a couple of beers, we asked him if there were any local bars that he would recommend, and he ended up taking us to this bar that had the BIGGEST Bob Marley shrine we have ever seen! It was amazing. We had a wonderful time that night – the best memories are those that we get to share with people.
Purchased some bracelets from this interesting sales lady.
Wooden penises are popular in Kuta.
