The Sky Trail is a short distance backpacking trip starting at Bear Valley to Sky camp. The trail is only 2.9 miles but it can be quite strenuous because more than half of the time you’re on an incline. This route showcased only a small view of the ocean from a distance, nevertheless it was a beautiful hike. Highlight of our stay was seeing a fox pass through our campsite, scouting for food in the evening.
Sky trail is located in Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County, California. The Sky Campground was fairly secluded and each site has a picnic table and food storage. There’s a bathroom in the campground, although it was painful to use due to the awful smell. We suggest bringing a trowel.
To make a reservation go to Recreation.gov and pick up your permit at Bear Valley Visitor Center on the day of your hike. Unfortunately, our campsite was double booked so we had to share the space with a fellow backpacker. It turned out fine, we had a good chat with him and he was nice enough to leave plenty of food storage space for us.
