This place was our favorite spot in Indonesia because of the beach and its laid back environment. Gili T does not allow any motorized vehicles, which gives the island a chill and quiet atmosphere. This town has a balanced feel to it- half of the island houses most of the restaurants, street food, bars and night clubs while the other side is more peaceful and less crowded. Away from the main strip of Gili T is a spot called Paradise Sunset Bar that we highly recommend because you can get an incredible view of the sunset and at night they have fire shows.
Gili Trawangan (aka Gili T) is the largest island of the Gili Islands and is in Lombok, Indonesia.
We took a speed boat from Kuta to Gili Trawangan. It was fast, but kind of a painful experience since I got nauseated from the gas smell. It was also a little troubling that they had the life jackets inside these cupboards that were taped shut – I am sure we could not pry that open if there were an emergency. Nonetheless, it was worth traveling to Gili, but we will probably opt for the slower (more expensive) boat next time. Once on the island, there are a few ways to explore the island and we think the best way is by foot or bike. To make a full circle around the island by bike will take about an hour and by foot 1.5-2 hours. You can also get around Gili T by horseback riding or a horse carriage.
